The main focus of his research is on strongly correlated electron systems near phase transitions and on heterostructures for applications in neutron and xray optics as well as other applications.<br>After studying physics at ETH Zurich, Prof. P. B\u00f6ni received his doctorate in 1983 from ETH Zurich in the field of dynamic light scattering. His activities as a scientist took him first to Brookhaven National Laboratory (until 1988) and to the Paul Scherrer Institute, where he held the position of deputy head of the ETH &amp; PSI Neutron Scattering Laboratory. Since 2000, Prof. B\u00f6ni has been full professor of neutron scattering at TUM.
